Dr. Kelle L. Marshall is an Associate Professor of French at Pepperdine University and French Studies Program Coordinator. She holds an M.A. in French Linguistics from Arizona State University and a Ph.D. in French Linguistics from The University of Texas at Austin. Her research focuses on instructed second language acquisition and on North American Francophone linguistic identities and language ideologies. Currently, Dr. Marshall and Dr. Wendy Bokhorst-Heng (Crandall University, New Brunswick, Canada) are conducting research on French immersion education in New Brunswick Canada. Their work investigates teachers’ and administrators’ perspectives on intercultural instruction, intercultural objectives in the French immersion curriculum, immersion teachers as intercultural mediators, and immersion students’ investment in French. Their work appears in the Foreign Language Annals and the International Journal of Research & Method in Education and is forthcoming in Canadian Modern Language Review.

In 2015, Drs. Marshall and Bokhorst-Heng received an ACTFL Research Priorities award for their work on immersion teachers. Along with Drs. Richard Donato, Mandy Menke, and Francis Troyan, Dr. Marshall was then invited to participate on the Plenary III panel at the 2016 ACTFL Convention in Boston, a panel on immersion teachers’ ideologies and perspectives. In 2019, Dr. Marshall received a Fulbright Specialist Award to teach a course at Crandall University on intercultural pedagogies in pre-service immersion teacher education.
