Literacy-Based Instruction in Graduate Student Teacher Education

Presenters: Nina Vyatkina, Marianna Ryshina-Pankova, Chantelle Warner
This session showcases best practices for helping graduate student teachers develop sophisticated and useful understandings of literacy- and text-based approaches to foreign language teaching. Presentations drawing on current research in applied linguistics (i.e., text corpora, systemic functional linguistics, and the teaching of literature) and include:
(1) "Student teachers’ learning about and with corpora: A German corpus literacy course" (Nina Vyatkina)
(2) "Appropriating Nominalizations as a Conceptual and Pedagogical Tool for Teaching FL Literacy" (Marianna Ryshina-Pankova)
(3) "Preparing Foreign Language Teachers to Teach Literacy through Literature"( Chantelle Warner).
