Johanna Watzinger-Tharp

Johanna Watzinger-Tharp is Associate Professor in the Department of Linguistics at the University of Utah where she has also served as Associate Dean for International Programs and Director of International Studies, and coordinated the lower division language programs in the Department of World Languages & Cultures. Her current research focuses on dual language immersion, curricular articulation and teacher education. She has published on variation in German, the intersection of global and language studies, student achievement in dual immersion, and L2 methodology, and has also co-authored German textbooks. In 2010, she received the ACTFL/NYSAFLT Anthony Papalia Award for Excellence in Teacher Education. She is past president of the American Association of University Supervisors and Coordinators (AAUSC) and serves on the AATG executive council. As co-chair of the Utah World Language Council, she helped produce the Utah Language Roadmap for the 21st Century, which led to the creation of dual language immersion programs in Utah.
